My travel “musts”
There are some travel must-dos. I have a few myself. I share with you my travel essentials.
First, there will be variations depending on the type of trip and the means of transport. My essentials are not the same for a weekend trip to Ottawa by car or for two weeks in Peru.
Travel shopping
Making purchases in foreign currencies whether at home or while traveling often hides additional fees silently charged by most financial institutions. Withdrawing money while traveling is even more expensive. There are, fortunately, ways to go about it to limit throwing your money out the window.
Mobile data while traveling
Traveling abroad with your mobile is a habit these days. Receiving the bill after we return can leave us with a bitter taste of our vacation.
Here are some options that are more or less easy and more or less expensive.
WIFI Calling (VoWIFI)
When you are abroad, you may want to be able to receive calls or at least receive your voicemails. The WIFI calling feature (or Voice over WIFI / VoWIFI) is perfect for this. It allows you to make and receive calls and text messages WITHOUT ROAMING CHARGES.
The principle is simple: Calls and text messages go through the Internet rather than through the mobile phone provider.
Accepted baggage dimensions
Here is a list (not exhaustive) of the baggage dimensions authorized by the different transport companies. Some companies do not include baggage in the price of their tickets.
Flight delayed? Are you entitled to compensation?
Is your flight delayed or cancelled? You may be entitled to compensation from the airline. Knowledge is power. Don’t let this event ruin your morale knowing that you may be entitled to compensation. You could get up to CA$1000 per passenger!
