In September 2023, I went to Boston with my family. Let me share my stay with you.
Destination city: Boston, MA

Length of stay: 3 days
We hit the road early in the morning. Boston is a 5 hour drive and we were going to stop for “brunch” on the way. Direction: The American border.
I like country roads, so I chose a border crossing that wasn’t connected to a highway.
I didn’t have a specific itinerary. I had a 2 night reservation in Boston and wanted to see as much as possible (in a short amount of time). This was my first visit to Boston.
I was going to get there in the afternoon.
First day in Boston
The Freedom Trail
The Freedom Trail in Boston is a historic walking trail that connects 16 iconic sites related to the American Revolution. This fascinating 2.5-mile walk takes visitors through key locations in American history, including the Boston Common, Massachusetts State House, Old State House, Faneuil Hall, and Old North Church. Each stop offers captivating anecdotes and insights into Boston’s role in the fight for American independence. The trail is marked with a red line on the sidewalk, making it an easy and immersive guided tour experience for all ages.
All followed by a good dinner and off to the hotel to sleep.
Second day
For the second day, I had more time. I was going to see the campus of the legendary Harvard University.
Harvard University
Harvard University’s campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is an iconic place steeped in history and academic prestige. Spread across more than 200 acres, the campus is dotted with majestic buildings, verdant courtyards, and peaceful plazas. Highlights include the famous Harvard Yard, home to historic buildings such as Massachusetts Hall and University Hall. Visitors can also explore architectural gems like Widener Library and Memorial Hall. A cruise to see the city from another point of view
Boston is beautiful from the inside but you can see it differently from the ocean.
Boston’s waterfront views offer a unique perspective on this historic and vibrant city. Sailing along Boston Harbor, one can admire an impressive skyline dominated by modern skyscrapers that sit alongside iconic historic buildings. The sparkling waters reflect the city’s bright lights, creating a captivating atmosphere, especially at dusk. Ships, sailboats, and motorboats animate the waters, while the famous islands of Boston Harbor offer a natural escape just a short stroll from downtown. From this maritime perspective, Boston reveals its rich history, economic dynamism, and natural beauty, offering visitors an unforgettable experience.
New England Aquarium
The New England Aquarium is a must-see destination for families visiting Boston. Located on the scenic waterfront, this aquarium offers an immersive experience into the fascinating world of marine life. Kids and parents alike can explore a variety of interactive exhibits, from touch tanks filled with sea creatures to mesmerizing dive shows. The aquarium’s star attraction is its massive central tank, home to an incredible array of tropical fish, sea turtles, and even sharks. Themed exhibits also provide opportunities for playful learning about ocean conservation and protecting marine life. With engaging educational programs and activities suitable for all ages, the New England Aquarium promises a memorable and enriching day for the entire family.
Third day
I wasn’t going to “just” come back on day 3. There are still things to see. Compromise for the family: I’ll pass through the town of Salem on the way back.
Salem
Located on the northeastern coast of Massachusetts, Salem is a city rich in history and culture. Best known for its famous witch trials of 1692, Salem attracts visitors from around the world to learn about its fascinating history. Beyond its witchcraft-related past, Salem offers a charming atmosphere with cobblestone streets, well-preserved historic homes, and numerous museums dedicated to maritime history and local crafts. Visitors can stroll along the picturesque Salem Harbor, visit the Peabody Essex Museum to see its impressive collection of art and artifacts, or explore the antique shops and craft stores in the historic district. With lively festivals, cultural events, and a variety of tourist attractions, Salem offers a unique experience that blends history, mystery, and coastal charm.
Back home. Sure there is much more to see. I have shared my itinerary with you and I hope to give you a taste of visiting this majestic city.
